The Jolly Dollies

Q: How do I find my local group?
A: Just email us at

Q: What if there is not a Jolly Dollies group in my area?
A: Once you become a member and with our help and support perhaps you could start a Jolly Dollies group in your area and help other widows to have a supportive social life. If you feel you would not want to start a Jolly Dollies Group, then that is perfectly OK, we will put you in touch with the Jolly Dollies members nearest to you

Q: How often does my local Jolly Dollies group meet?
A: Each Jolly Dollies group is different but each group will hold a monthly meeting with an agenda of social events where you will be able to put forward your own ideas.

Q: Do I have to pay to attend a Jolly Dollies meeting?
A: There is an annual recurring Jolly Dollies membership fee of £10, other than this you will have to pay for any organised social events that you attend e.g. lunches, theatre tickets etc.

Q: Why is there an annual Jolly Dollies membership fee?
A: The annual membership fee is set against such things as maintaining and improving our website, as with all organisations there is also the obvious administration and running costs involved. You will also appreciate that because of the sensitivity and vulnerability of our members the Jolly Dollies website has to be securely regulated and hosted.
We have kept our annual membership fee very low to guarantee that it is not a barrier for any widow wanting to become a Jolly Dollies member. We would want to ensure that widows everywhere can enjoy the camaraderie, friendship and understanding of being part of a Jolly Dollies Group.
Going forward, we would wish to keep improving the Jolly Dollies experience and the service we offer our members.

Q: What does my Jolly Dollies annual membership entitle me to?
A:Every JD member is entitled to have access to our JD Community page where they can:

  • Chat on our JD’s & JG’s LETS CHAT Forum. This is the only forum on this website that is accessible to both JG’s and JD’s. Use of this or any other forum on this website is entirely at members own risk (see our Terms & Conditions).

Q: Do I have to become a Jolly Dollies member to join the group?
A: Yes, this is for everyone's security and safety but it is very easy to join and there are so many benefits to becoming a Jolly Dolly.

Q: Why is each group restricted to twenty members?
A: Twenty is a perfect number for socialising. Not all The Jolly Dollies in a group will attend all the events so twenty ensures that some do. It also ensures that each Jolly Dollies group remains a group of friends and that no one is left out.

Q: Can I transfer my membership to a different Jolly Dollies group?
A: Yes, one of the many benefits of Jolly Dollies Groups is that as a member you can either join or visit any group, whether that is for the occasional event or permanently, it’s up to you. For example, if you are visiting another area you could meet up with group members in that area and make even more Jolly Dollies friends.

Q: Will The Jolly Dollies in my group be trained advisers?
A: No, The Jolly Dollies groups are run by widows just like you, so there is no formal training or advice. Once you are a member of The Jolly Dollies you become part of a social network that allows women in the same situation to come together and support each other.

Q: Can a widow that is not online join a local Jolly Dollies Group?
A: Yes, we have introduced a Basic Membership for widows who are not online but wish to join a Jolly Dollies Group. A Jolly Dollies group member will let them have an application form which once completed, the £10 annual membership fee is paid by 'Bank Transfer' and the form has been returned to us, we will email the local group for them to make contact. Jolly Dollies Basic members are unable to login to our website, receive online benefits or receive emails.

Q: What are the ‘Objectives’ of The Jolly Dollies Social Network for Widows?
A: Our main objective is to help widows regain a social life through friendship and social events. Our aim is to connect widows locally and nationally so that The Jolly Dollies network can reach all those widows who want and deserve to have a full, happy and supportive social life.
